'''Melmane''' is a large island in [[Blue]], located in the ocean between the mainland and [[Jabar]]. It is governed by Blue Mages through a rule-by-committee arrangement, with Challenge Duels settling disputes between them. It is the only Surface Land with regular interactions with the Merfolk Kingdoms, and actively assists them in their war against the [[Slith]].

==Geography and Ports==
Melmane has at least two major ports:
* A north port, approximately three days' sail from the ocean approaches
* A south port, one additional day beyond the north port

The inland city of [[Indaton]] is accessible by road from the coast and serves as the central settlement of the island.

==Factions and Power==
Several distinct power structures operate on Melmane:
* The Blue Mages, who govern the island overall
* The Admiralty, a naval force led by Admiral Philippa
* A [[Saurian]] military encampment dedicated to fighting [[Slith]], described as functioning like its own city with limited interaction with the rest of the island. Magic is limited there, and the Mages rarely intrude.

[[Mayor Flynn]] of [[Indaton]] holds unusual political authority. He does not answer to the Admiralty and answers to the Mages only in the general way everyone does.

==The Slith War==
Melmane is actively fighting the [[Slith]]. The navy is recruiting men and vessels, including repurposing civilian ships as supply ships. [[Slith]] encampments have been discovered near Melmane. Coordinating with [[Berana]]'s Red mages against Slith anti-magic fields was identified as a key strategic opportunity by the [[Middlesea Free Rangers]].

==The Free Rangers' Visit==
The [[Middlesea Free Rangers]] traveled to Melmane to:
* Brief Admiral Philippa on the [[Middlesea]] crisis and the [[Marek]] spell
* Facilitate alliances between [[Berana]], Melmane, and the Mer against the Slith
* Coordinate with the Saurians and seek out the Merfolk
